Barefoot elegance in tropical paradise

Reasons to Recommend

The Cayman Islands’ sun-bleached white beaches, warm sunshine and turquoise sea make it the perfect exotic retreat. Lively Grand Cayman has restaurants, shops and top attractions like Stingray City, Boatswain’s beach and Rum Point, while sister islands Little Cayman and Cayman Brac offer solitude and dramatic scenery. Accommodation options range from five-star hotels and resorts to spacious condos, villas and rustic dive lodges.

Luxuriate on wide, sandy stretches beside crystal waters teeming with coral reefs and marine creatures. With many activities couples can relax or explore by diving amid ship wrecks, roving though mangrove swamps, wandering ancient forests or watching an array of colourful marine life go by.

Setting the Scene

Luxury or seclusion, extravagant or simple, romantic Cayman speaks your language no matter the occasion. For couples looking to plan an exotic island wedding, the Cayman Islands offer something few destination can match, exquisite natural beauty infused with civility and commitment. The result is a barefoot elegance that promises to make your special day truly remarkable. Whether you are planning a grand, sophisticated church wedding for 200, or an intimate beachfront ceremony for two – Grand Cayman, Little Cayman and Cayman Brac afford the locales, activities and attractions to make your experience larger than life.

At sunrise, sunset or anytime in between, Seven Mile Beach in Grand Cayman provides a perfect backdrop for weddings. Rum Point provides a distinct island feel with lazy hammocks, soft sand and shallow waters. Pedro St. James, a grand 19th century architectural site, is found at the end of a quiet, mango and mahogany tree-shaded road in Savannah, Grand Cayman, high atop a limestone bluff. Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park features a multi-coloured floral showcase of tropical plants as a backdrop. For those who would like to inject a little Caymanian culture into their wedding, couples are able to marry at the peaceful and colourful Queen Elizabeth II Botanical Park, or the national historic site of Pedro St. James, with superb views over the Caribbean sea.

The more traditionally-hearted can choose from a quaint church wedding, a secluded beach ceremony or the luxurious surroundings of a five star resort.  For a wedding with a twist, and for those who are a little more adventurous, the bride and groom can wed aboard a catamaran or even underwater, while diving among the islands’ pristine coral reefs.

With world-class diving, luxury resorts, candle lit restaurants, sun-drenched beaches and a year round tropical climate, it is hard to beat the Cayman Islands for a romantic escape for any couple yearning to step away from daily life and spend rejuvenating quality time together.

Planning a destination wedding?

Couples, including those arriving by cruise ship, can marry the same day they arrive in the Cayman Islands. They need to have a non-residents marriage license, and a letter from the authorized and officiating Marriage Officer.

Applications for non-resident marriage licenses ($200USD) and a list of licensed Marriage Officers can be obtained from the Deputy Chief Secretary’s Office. The office of the Deputy Chief Secretary is in George Town on Grand Cayman (345-949-7900 or 345-914-2222). On Cayman Brac this is provided by either the Deputy Chief Secretary or the District Commissioner’s Office.

Couples must also provide: proof of citizenship and age; passport or an original or certified copy of birth certificate with photo identification; proof of marital status; Cayman Islands Immigration Department card (or Cayman Islands international embarkation/disembarkation card for cruise ship passengers)’ and two witnesses at the ceremony.
